HI all, I've been contacted by a customer who has the following problem. Customer is going to develop a steel-plant control system whose man machine interface is layered upon Motif. Open VMS and AlphaStations are used in this system. Customer is going to develop an English MMI , but has to provide his ultimate customer the possibility to modify the MMI using chinese characters (the steel plant is in china). Which is the best way to do it? Customer can't develop the system using chinese motif from the beginning becouse he doesn't know chinese at all :-). The ultimate customer wants to have the possibility to make modification and translation to the MMI using chinese fonts and characters Is it possible to have the system with both English and International/Chinese Motif installed and switch beteween the two at startup? If yes, jow? Other way to perform what I've described? Thanks in advance Angelo

RE: -1 As long as your customer develops the program which is conformed with Motif I18N programming, then the program can display and input both English and Chinese character. If they want to display Chinese GUI, it is only required to translate the resource file to Chinese language. This means, your customer can develop the program on English environment. But, they have to do the testing on Chinese environment. - Chris | |||||

RE: -1 I assume that your customer did install DECwindows Motif Worldwide support Version 1.2-3 and the simplified Chinese language variant. To switch between Chinese and English GUI, first select Language function from the Options menu in Session Manager, and then choose your desirable language, "US English" or "Chinese China (DEC Hanzi)" from the Language menu. After that, the GUI of the new invoked application, such as DECterm, will display your selected language. Or, you could restarted the Session Manager. - Chris |
