Sam Lambert sent me some mail yesterday, and we chit-chatted a bit. He
gave me the OK to post this message as an update for those that know
him. His e-mail address is here if you want to contact him.

Subj:	RE: Bike belts and howdy

Hi Roger!

Yeah, I thought 60K was good for the belt, too. Glad I checked it, though!
I really don't want to get "stranded" somewhere... I did my clutch a few
years ago (has it really been 5+ years already? Wow - it was before I left
NE) and it still seems to be fine. I used Barnet stuff at the time. About
the only thing I did to it in CO was add steel brake lines and Progressive
fork springs, both of which were worth the time and effort.

One thing I probably should think about doing is fixing my "frame rot". I
have a rust spot on the frame rail where the bumper on the bottom of the
seat pad touches it. It's been like that for years, and I keep saying
"I'll get that next winter". I guess it's probably time to think about
doing it, since the bike has to come apart to some degree anyway.

Oregon's great, so far! It does rain quite a bit, and this is actually one
of the wettest winters they've seen in a while, so it was a good learning
experience for us. (If we survived this without going crazy we can survive
anything! :-) But it's officially spring now, and it's beautiful. It's
already warm. We had one morning during the winter where we had a dusting
of snow on the ground, but that was it; and that was gone in an hour.
We're only 1-1/2 hours south of Portland, where they did get a fair amount
of snow this year, but we're in a valley and have "coastal" weather, even
though we're an hour from the coast. It's real nice!

I'm not meeting as many people as fast as I did when we moved to CO, due to
not having stayed with DEC this time (and the CYCLES notes connections,
etc). But those that I have met are nice. Interesting mix of
down-to-earth country type people (Oregon is mostly rural, after all) and
"West Coast influence" - a fair amount of trendiness and all that.
Corvallis, where I am, is also a major college town (OSU) so that's makes
things interesting. And we've got the social liberal mecca of Eugene an
hour south of us, and they tend to dominate the media, so you get the
feeling the whole state is liberal, when in fact it's mostly conservative
farmers and hunters. It's sooo different from NE in some respects; you
get these huge expanses of nothing but farm land between infrequent cities,
where houses are clustered together. All the major population centers are
along the "I-5 Corridor", and 1/10th of the state's land area contains
9/10ths of the population. Sort of like Colorado with I-25 running through
the middle.

We miss NE for our friends, but don't miss the overcrowding and traffic
problems. We visited there last year and were surpised (well, not
really...) to see they're _still_ working on route 3 in Nashua! :-) We're
both really sick of moving our household though (this last one was a real
pain), so if we ever do move again, it'll probably be back to NE somewhere.
Maybe Portland, ME, or something like that...

The move is "mostly" complete, but we've still got some boxes kicking
around. The house here is smaller than the one in CO, so making everything
fit is "interesting". House prices in general are just higher out here.

Rogue Wave is a great place, and keeps me real busy. I've got a few people
working for me now, and am getting used to being a "boss". (Who'da thunk
it, huh? :-)) Real fast paced, and growing. Hey, wanna come out here and
be a software porting manager? We just opened a position in that area...
 Nice people over all.

Well, I guess it's back to work time. Hope things are going well for you!
Say hi to folks for me,

-- Sam
