246.0. "Entry number scheme" by TAV02::GALIA (Galia Reznik, Israel Software Support) Mon Apr 07 1997 07:58
Hi,
After asking in VMSNOTES (note 421) and reading a few relative notes
here (such as 201 and 150) I still don't understand, how can the Queue
Manager be 'persuaded' to get down to lower entries after he climbed to
the millions.
Please, read VMSNOTES note 421, so I will not have to repeat the story.
It seems, that the Queue manager 'remembers' the highest entry he has
been to, and even though he has plenty of unused entries in 1..9999, he
uses entry number over million.
Is the highest entry 'remembered'?
How can one make the Queue manager use entries 1..9999, if there are
enough unused there?
Thanks,
Galia Reznik,
MCS, Israel.

I believe the only SURE way to get back to the low entry number is to shutdown queue manager, delete the
QMAN$JOURNAL file and restart the queue manager. Of course you lose all jobs in the system (pending, holding
etc...) so they need to be manually requeued.
