4948.0. "So many bytes. So little time." by THOLIN::TBAKER (The Spirit of Apathy) Thu Mar 06 1997 11:20

    Hi,

I'm the PC LAT person. I'm working with a customer whose
terminal emulator sends a never ending stream of <cr>'s.

Yes, it's a bug. However, after sending six packets to VMS with
perhaps a total of 120 <cr>'s I run out of credits.

After several minutes of waiting, the host still hasn't sent
anything but ack messages. It hasn't sent data or credits.

Is this a known problem? Is there a workaround?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Tom, you should mention which OpenVMS version and architecture..

What type of service is the PC TE connecting to, and what is the
state of the VC just before the TE begins to send the <CR> stream ?

    John.

    Hi,

Well, the VAX is an old 5.3 VMS and the Alpha is V6.2-1H3.

Well, I do a $CREATE FOO.BAR and then send stuff to it.

The VC has one session and is in the run state, as is the slot layer.

I can post an Iris trace. It just shows a straight TE session.
The PC starts sending these DATA_A messages and credits never
    come back.

Hi, .2 has only confused me more.. :-\

Does that imply you see the same prob. on _both_ these platforms?

>Well, I do a $CREATE FOO.BAR and then send stuff to it.
    Huh?

    Yes. It means that.

    Sorry.

I issue the VMS command to create a file. I then go into the
broken terminal emulator menu and tell it to transmit a file that
I can capture on the VMS side. Instead of sending the file
the TE sends large quantities of <cr>s.

Yes, it is a bug in the TE. However, I was wondering why I
don't get any credits back after I send all those <cr>s.

Please post relevant parts of (or a -> to the whole of) the Iris
    trace..
B.t.w.. Does the TE do the LAT protocol itself or does it use an API
    to PATHWORKS LAT ?
