515.0. "Maximum size for a Stripset, VMS V6.2-1H3." by HGOSPS::KENNETH () Thu Feb 27 1997 00:06

Hi,

One of my customer is running OpenVMS V6.2-1H3 on ALPHA4100 system.
He would like to form a stripset with RZ29VW disks. I would like to know is
there any limitation on the size of the stripset?

What is the maximum size?

Thanks for your help in advance.

The size of a stripeset is limited by VMS restrictions
on the size of a Files-11 disk. The largest Files-11 disk
for VMS V5.5-2 is 8.5 GB. VMS V6.0 and up the restriction
is approximately 2.2 TB. The largest stripeset that
I know has been created is 32 GB.

Kenneth,

  While .1 is right for striping generally,

>One of my customer is running OpenVMS V6.2-1H3 on ALPHA4100 system.

striping software dealing in this conference is not available as a
formal product on Alpha platform. If you're talking about StorageWorks
RAID Software, COOKIE::RAID_SOFTWARE_FOR_OPENVMS is the appropiate place
for your question.
