64.0. "How to separate SMF devices and volumes" by CSC32::J_HAVER () Thu Feb 27 1997 16:25
I have a customer who needs the following information. Your assistance
is appreicated.
Thanks,

I'm running SMFS V1.2-0 on OpenVMS V6.2 (VAX) and V6.2-1H2 (Alpha).
I have created 2 SMF devices, MXU1 and MXS1. S is for System, it is
mine, and U is for users. I would like each device to be on it's own
tape volume, so system work and user work do not interfere with each
other. What is the best way to accomplish that? I don't see any
mechanism for specifying when to start a new tape volume, or even how
to
see what volumes a device is using.
FYI, the tapes are TZ88s in a TL812 robotic library unit.

| Tape volumes are never shared between SMF filesystems.
