2259.0. "Simutaneous restore questions." by CX3PST::BSS::SAUL () Mon May 19 1997 14:09
Hi,
I have some questions on simutaneous restores and robotic devices.
1). In a multiple DLT environment, what will happen if two restores are
initiated at the same time that want to use the same tape or two tapes located
in the same magazine? How will SLS/MDMS handle this?
My thought is, one restore will work fine. The second will allocate a second
DLT and ask that the magazine be imported. Will it wait forever for the import
or is there a timeout value that will be reached causing the restore to abort?
Or will it see that the volume or magazine is in use and wait or abort?
2). Second question would be the same scenario in an ALT such as TL820? Two
restores are initiated that want to use the same tape.
I'm thinking that one will run just fine and the second will abort with some
kind of load error because SLS/MDMS doesn't find the tape in the slot.
Any help will be appreciated. I don't think I've run into these questions
before but I have customer who is asking. Thanks.
Ted
