2222.0. "Web http/ftp server?" by SANITY::LEMONS (And we thank you for your support.) Fri Mar 14 1997 13:09

    Hi

I'd like to link your documentation into an internal Web page I'm
building to hold pointers on SLS activities. Is your document available
from a http or ftp server?

Also, does your group have an internal Web server?

    Thanks!

Greetings,

Pass this link to your friends. If there's anything else you would like to
have us serve from this site, please let us know.

    Hi Steve

Thanks for the pointer! May I abuse the gift with a few requests?

o thanks for adding the link to the SLS notes file; please do the same
    for the other products.

o please set up ftp access on COOKIE so that url links to these files
can be created. If that can't be done, please add links on your page
to use the DECnet gateway, as in:

    http://www.ini.dec.com/cgi-bin/ersdec?COOKIE::AIM$PUBLIC:[SLS.028A.DOCUMENTS]

o please consider adding a one paragraph desciption of each tool to
your page. Add a pointer to the current SPD at the end of each
description, for those that want more, perhaps.

Your page is a GREAT first effort; it's neat to see all your products
    in one place.
    Thanks!

You're welcome. In fact, this is the kind of feedback I was hoping to get
when we started this.

I'll contact the folks at LKG and ask them to start processing the other
notes conferences. Only those currently available are pointed at. If the
conference isn't processed at LKG, then its pointer isn't linked.

I don't have authority to enable ftp access. I will first try this gateway
mode of accessing the doc'n. If that works, then I'll link it as such.

    OK! We'll get to that.

Thanks again! These pages are an extracurricular effort on behalf of our
three person writing team. We'll work on improving the pages as we get more
suggestions. As a I asked before, if you know of anyone else who could use
this medium for information, please let them know about it. We'll do our best
to provide what's useful.

    Steve

Wow! Thanks for being so receptive! Most of the world isn't as
enamored of my voluminous feedback :).

While this may open a theological debate, please consider producing
your documentation in Acrobat and HTML formats. Acrobat is way better
than PostScript; I'd like to see us move away from it as the default
    internal documentation distribution format.

The Digital UNIX doc group has gone, in my opinion, an excellent job
porting their manual set to the Web. Give it a spin at:

    Thanks again!
