2205.0. "Tape "cloning"?" by IMPERO::BELLONI (CHMP = Change mode to Paraglide) Mon Mar 03 1997 01:18
Hello,
A very important customer need to implement a daily off-site storage to
have a Disaster Recovery capability. Being a full-VMS site the idea to manage
the backups is to use DLT ATL devices. But they need to to have a local copy of
the tapes to restore backups if, for example, the accidentally erase something.
The question is: is it there in the SLS a feature which permits them to
"clonate", in the most automated system, the daily backups, so to have two
copies of them , on for the local library and one in the DR site?
Many thanks in advance for any help.
Max

| Hi Max,
SLS won't do it automatically for you (neither will ABS at this time).
Two ways customers get around...
- run the backup twice (not very practical but some customers do it).
- make a copy of the tape using RMS...watch the RMS limitations.
- use Saveset Manager (SSM) This will copy backup tapes for
you.
