Configuration: OpenVMS VAX V6.1 SLS V2.8-2 (ECO2) Dual-Redundant HSJ50s (V5.0) TL810 Problem: Customer has been having problems with failover of his TL810 between a dual-redundant HSJ50 pair. During backups last week a hard-failure occurred on the primary HSJ50; the four tapes went into mount verification; SLS reported the devices misconfigured; the backups failed with "medium is offline". Note: I'm getting this information "second-hand" so I'm hoping that I've been faithful to the sequence of events. Discussion: The situation has since stabilized however, we would like to know if the HSJ50 has ever been tested with SLS in this configuration or if there are any "known" issues that may be in play. Thanks, Dennis

You will have to provide more information before I can give you any useful advise. In particular, I need the details regarding "SLS reported the devices misconfigured". What exactly were the error message? The dual-redundant hsj50 configuration is supported by VMS and SLS. Marty | |||||

Hi Dennis, I have had many problems with TL822's and pairs of HSJ40's. I think your customer has the messages the wrong way around. The HSJ can report the devices are misconfigured, VMS would then have seen the devices go offline(and SLS). My customer still seems to have problems with tape drives and or the pass device changing controller. This change seems to happen even without errors, so the only safe workaround for my customer is to set the devices with a preferred path on the controllers. Good luck, Scott. |
