3004.0. "Extract Text from PageMaker PM6 file ??" by WOOK::tunsrv2-tunnel.imc.das.dec.com::read (Bob Read @OGO, DTN 276-9715) Sat May 03 1997 17:38

I have this PM6 file that was created by PageMaker. I just want to get the
text out of the file. Unfortunately, I don't have my very own copy of
PageMaker. Are there any utilities or other programs that will open a PM6
file and allow me to extract just the text portions?

thanks,
b.

I don't know of any freeware/shareware tools that'd do this, and Pagemaker
files seem to be one of the toughest to find import filters for in other
    programs.

I've read that you can "brute force" it by renaming the .pm6 file to
.txt, and then importing that as a plain text file in Word. Sounds
dicey to me - what with the tons of unreadable formtting crapola you'd
    get whacked with...

Even with PM6 (and PM6.51), in order to extract "plain" text from a
Pagemaker document, you have to open each "story" within the document
wwith PM's "Story Editor", and then Save As text from there...

I'd be happy to do this for you, if you can tolerate an overnight
turn-around. Attach the file to an email message to my *Exchange* address
[email protected], and when I get home I'll chunk out the text and
email it back to you the same evening...

    Cheers!
