| TurboTax allows it as long as you're not using electronic filing or
1040PC, in which case it's the IRS that insists you round.

Check out http://www1.intuit.com/quicken_store/sets/ttstateset.html
Looks like you can either download or order by phone for $24.95. On the
'download' page, there is a table of availability dates, by state.

I haven't gotten around to checking their price on the state
version yet.

| I just called Intuit to order the state version and it was $24.95 +
$1.25 for sales tax, there was no shipping or handling charge (I asked).
Since I also have TurboTax Deluxe, I verified that I could still get
the additional $5 rebate for purchasing the state. The woman checked
and said "Sure, no problem."

ANYTHING with any purchase over $40. SO I needed some supplies anyway,
(paper, etc) and then I 'logically' applied the coupon to the TurboTax
State software... That yields a $19.95 cost, plus I still have the $5
coupon to send in from Intuit directly.

2885.15 | print problem with MA return? | NETCAD::FLOWERS | High Performance Networking; Dan | Wed Feb 19 1997 23:25 | 10 |
| Has anyone had any printing problems with MASS State Turbo Tax? When printing
the completed MASS return (no errors in the return) to an inkjet printer, the
first page prints (the summary page) and then the program crashes... never to
print any pages of the return.
I checked the Intuit Web site, but no product updates for the MASS State Turbo
Tax...

| I was having trouble printing the Fed foerms at all - I have an HP 540.
Poked around on the Intuit web site a bit yesterday. It said that for color
compatible inkjet printers you might have to set it to greyscale. It also
suggested turning off print manager.
Investigate "printing problems" rather than "Mass" problems.

"MathCAD 6.0" with a HP520 printer running REV 5.1.
REV 5.1 has a bug in it print from programs that use win32 files.
SOLUTION: up grade print drivers to 6.x (dont remember the exact
rev).

| I just had a small problem, the results of which might help someone else.
I purchased the headstart, state package of TurboTax back in mid-January.
I promptly mailed the coupon for Intuit to send me the final edition as
soon as it was ready. Last night, I called to check on when I should
expect delivery and got a small surprise. I wasn't scheduled to get it.
It turns out that the person who processed the coupon simply registered
me, but didn't set me up for delivery of the final edition. For me, it's
now resolved but only because I called.
If you're expecting Intuit to mail you the final edition, and you think you
should have it already, a call might be in order.

2885.20 | Fun with Electronic Filing | ASABET::MCWILLIAMS | | Tue Feb 25 1997 13:39 | 23 |
| An interesting experience I had this year was Electronic filing. To
combat fraud on electronic filing, the IRS is requiring filer's
birthdates along with the Social Security number. Before accepting the
return they check the name, birthdate, and SSN against the Social
Security Adminstration files. If something doesn't match, the return
is rejected.
Well mine was rejected for my wife's birthday not matching. Calling
the Social Security Adminstration's (SSA) 800 number (1-800-772-1213)
yielded a rude clerk who confirmed that their files didn't list my
wife's birthday correctly, but she wouldn't give what date they had on
file (even after giving the other information like maiden name,
mother's name, location first applied, marriage date). Her suggestion
was to visit a SSA office and get it corrected - which would take
another 8-10 weeks to update the computer files - making electronic
filing impossible.
My wife instead called the SSA office in a very small rural city, and
got somebody helpful, and got the date listed on the files. We used
this on the return to get the return accepted. After the refund is
back, then we will go and get the SS data updated.

That makes it pretty easy for a thief to file a false return.
Birthdate, what a novel concept for security. I have a CD with the
birthdates of every person who owns a car in New Hampshire.

2885.22 | Anyone use this with NT V4? | BIGBRD::wldhrn.mlo.dec.com::Rogers | | Thu Mar 06 1997 11:59 | 13 |
| Has anyone used this with NT V4.0? I've installed this and it
seems to run (it did last year under V3.51) but haven't gotten into
it yet. I notice that NT isn't listed under system requirements so
perhaps there are problems. There used to be problems with printing.
In the past, I've used different systems (WFW or Win95) to obtain
final copies since I don't have a local printer. Now I'm considering
getting a printer of my system (but if this doesn't work, there's no
immediate rush ;-). Any comments about printing or otherwise with
NT?
Thanks,
Steve

I use it on NT Workstation 4.0. The software works pretty well
but printing is problematic. I have not yet been able to print
a complete return. It prints a few pages and then craps out.
I have to print individual forms and in some cases individual
pages within a form. i am eventually able to get all the pages,
but it takes a bit more clicking than I would like.

| turbo tax appears to have a bug.
If you enter in your mortage in the home business section, and it
calculates the portion you can use for the home business, it
adds the mortgage - portion used for home business to the mortgage
you claim for itemized deductions instead of subtracting the
portion used for home business from the amount you put in for itemized
deductions. I was accually getting a refund until I found this error.

I have Excel sheets that I use to confirm that all my deductions were

also did the same thing with the real estate taxes.

I'd call them, except they list a 504 number, which would cost me $$$
so I simply did the override.
