| Randomly my VRC16 will go blank for less than a second, and then come right
back. Any ideas?

| Mine was like that for a while. Now every so often it goes blank and
stays that way, even through a power-cycle. I've found a spot on one
side near the back where a sharp knock will restore the picture. I
borrowed another VRC16 from work, and it has exactly the same symptoms
(even the same place to hit to get the picture back). I've heard this
same problem from other VRC16 owners, so it seems to be a very common
failure mode. I'd start saving for a new monitor :-(
What resolution are you running at? Based on limited testing,
1024x768(NI) or higher seems to trigger the problem far more than
1024x768(I) or lower. Also I believe it's heat-related - usually the
problem only occurs after a reasonably long period of use.

| I am running 640*480 pixels with adapter S3 and an unknown monitor type. This
is from a vanilla W95 install. The monitor goes blank within 5 minutes of
power up, and then is fine after that, at least that is what I have noticed
over the last few days...
Thanks,
Brad.

| I had a monitor that acted like that. It got progressively worse over
time and had to be replaced.

I had the same problem with my VRC16-CA but fortunately for me it was
still under DEC contract. The replacement one I got when the original
was swapped out worked OK for a year or so. Now it is very blurry and
needs to be tossed. I tried adjusting the focus which made it somewhat
better but it is still pretty bad.
