Staples is advertising the IOMEGA ZIP portable 100 Mb external disk
drive with free ZIP tools software for $199.99 less $50 mail in rebate.
They also have 10 pack of IOMEGA ZIP disks, formatted for $149.99 less
a $20 mail in rebate. Offer expires 2/22/97. Is this a good deal?

BJs and Costco normally have ZIP drives for $179 (plus the $50 rebate
from IOMEGA), Sams sells 'em for $169 (and last week had a coupon for an
additional $20 off) plus the $50 rebate.

Otherwise, $199 seems to be the going rate.

1251.117Help - Iomega ZIP - Can't see driveGROOVE::DADDIECOThat's Just The Way It Is .....Fri Apr 04 1997 13:3314
Need help!

I just cannot get my W95 PC to recognize my ZIP drive. Where do I
start debugging this problem? Trying to get a contact with Iomega
Tech. Support is a JOKE! My printer (on LPT1:) is connected to the
Zip Drive and it works just fine. But Explorer just does not see the
drive. I've downloaded the latest W95 driver ie WIN9552.EXE and the
lastest installation program ie FLPY52.EXE - installed both -
successfully - but still - I keep getting the message when Opening
Guest - "No Iomega drives could be found ..."

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanx .... Dan
1251.118has it ever worked?tbuvax.alf.dec.com::hydeFrom the laboratory of Dr. JekyllFri Apr 04 1997 13:479
Has it ever worked? I find that if I boot with the driver loaded
and the ZIP drive not attached, then hook up the drive and try to
run Guest95, that it behaves as you describe.

Check the Hardware tab in My Computer->Properties and see if you have
the device listed with the "!" symbol. If so, remove it, then try and
run Guest95 again.

1251.119Iomega - Listed under SCSI ControllersGROOVE::DADDIECOThat's Just The Way It Is .....Fri Apr 04 1997 14:3610
NO - it's never ever worked - I just decided that today was going to
be the day that I "get it to work!" But as you can see - no luck.

I checked the SYSTEM PROPERTIES - DEVICE MANAGER - and found the Iomega
Adapter installed/list under my SCSI controllers line item. I REMOVED
it as you instructed - still no luck.

What now?

It might be selectable via the BIOS setup... what brand of

1251.123Iomega Zip Driver ProblemGROOVE::DADDIECOThat's Just The Way It Is .....Mon Apr 07 1997 19:2214
Problem solved - I called Iomega Co. - what trip that was - but anyway
- seems that with W95 systems you specifically cannot allow W95 to go
off and search for the Iomega Adaptor - it just won't find it - and if
for some reason it does find it - it associates it with your SCSI
Adaptor - which means you'll have to remove it before installing it
again - manually. You have to force it to look at wherever you keep
the Iomega ZIP driver file then tell W95 to use it - manually.

Anyway - now that it's working - it's been running flawlessly ever
since!

Thanx for all your help .... Very much appreciate it!

1251.124internal SCSI and external Parallel together?CCDCAT::WHITE_RSD40-2 porch loungerWed Jun 04 1997 14:5110
Has anyone tried to run two ZIP drives on one system? I know you can
cascade the parallel versions but I'm trying to help a friend get an
external parallel version working with an internal SCSI version. The
system recognizes the external but not the internal. Will recognize
the internal if the external is powered off or disconnected. Machine
types tried on 486DX133 PCI MB and 586 P100 PCI motherboard.

thanx

Robert
1251.125BULEAN::BANKSAre you correct or happy?Wed Jun 04 1997 16:3214
Almost makes one wish that they didn't sell the parallel version.

I have two Zip drives on my system (one internal, one external). Since
they're both SCSI, there haven't been any problems. Since they're IOMEGA,
you can only put two of them on one SCSI bus (because they give you the
choice of only two SCSI IDs, but that's just me being upset).

As far as mix 'n match: One would think that if the system detects any
devices on the SCSI bus, it'd also detect the SCSI Zip drive. Then again,
I haven't tried it.

Q: Is the internal drive connected to an IOMEGA proprietary SCSI interface?
I'm wondering whether their drivers try to be universal (and stupid), and
only recognize one interface at a time.
1251.126SCSI's togetherCCDCAT::WHITE_RSD40-2 porch loungerThu Jun 05 1997 15:0015
re -1
Yes the internal is hooked up to the proprietary SCSI card. The
external is the parallel. Also have an external SCSI with SCSI card.
Is this what you're doing? As far as addressing, haven't noticed any
problems or limitation with id's. Original external started at id #2
and is now at 5 on another system. Set the internal to 6. Kind of
funny about detection. SW detects only the parallel if both are
hooked up and powered on. SW seems to be happy only detecting one
and continues on ignoring the second. Will try the two SCSI's
(internal and external) together on the same machine and see what
happens.

thanx

Robert

Are they actually selling Zip drives that allow SCSI IDs other than 5
or 6 now?
