Ok, I'll tell. It's due to the fact that I'm a techno-weenie and I
just can bear the thought of having an extra hard-drive space open and
not filling it since I have the other HD sitting right on my desk. Sad,
isn't it? :)

Jim,
I hope you won't do it. (i.e. install the "spare" disk as slave to your
new disk) Put it on another IDE channel if you have to. Don't
compromise your primary IDE channel which runs at a higher optimal rate
than your 40 MB disk is capable. It'll have to slow down to remain
compatible.

Thanks for the advice, Bill. I hadn't thought of it that way. No
sense crippling myself. :)
I guess the 40MB conner continues to be a paperweight.
