1140.6 | RE24L-E Jumper settings? | ODIXIE::ZOGRAN | Any day now.... | Fri Mar 28 1997 13:37 | 14 |
| I was just given a RE24L-E 245MB drive to slap into my Celebris 590.
Two chips on the bottom of the drive lead me to believe that it's a
Quantum.
I tried to put it in in various configs, but the system doesn't seem to
recognize it as anything but a master drive on IDE Channel 1. My other
drive is already a Master on 0.
Are there jumper settings that need to be set (reset)? And on what
cable would it be best to put the drive?

| It sets up in the CMOS but W95 doesn't recognize it. Adding new
hardware wizard doesn't see it either. I know its got to be something
simple, any suggestions?
I re-jumpered the existing disk according to the specs on the disk. I
removed the jumper from the new one.

| Did you fire up FDISK from a DOS box?
Does FDISK see it?
If not, hardware/configuration problem.
If so, you probably just need to partition it and format it.
If not partioned and formated, W95 or DOS will not recognize it.

| Worst case, did you Control Panel/ADD New Hardware/Detect AFTER
you set the jumpers correctly? This has seemed to jump-start
Windows-95 to talk to drives that otherwise do not show up in Control
Panel/System/Device Manager/Disk Drives.
Also, (as mentioned in -1) IF Device Manager sees it, you need to
FDISK/FORMAT the drive to make it VALID MEDIA.

1140.12 | Its there, but.. | ODIXIE::ZOGRAN | Any day now.... | Mon Mar 31 1997 15:57 | 6 |
| Got the system to recognize it after the FDSIK routine. However, all
data sent to it (copies of files) gets corrupted. Any other parameters
to be set up either during startup or in W95? The "Add new hardware
routine" has yet to detect the disk.
