A customer has two 8MB simms that are not working for him.
The part number on the chip is TI TMS418160DZ. The customer was told
that are 72 pin 4 chip nonparity simms.

    Are they really the case?

The TC514400 parts are 1Mx4, the TC511000 are 1Mx1. Both are fast page
    mode parts.

Your system is correct: that is a 4Meg (parity) SIMM.
797.220450ST upgrade?NUBOAT::HEBERTCaptain BlighWed Apr 23 1997 15:0810
I have a DECpc 450ST that currently has 32mb of memory in four SIMMs.
According the the old catalog that I have, to upgrade to 64mb I can add
two more 16mb SIM kits, which have a part number of FR-PCTAM-CD.

VTX Price acts as if it does not recognize this number. What's my next
step to upgrade to a total of 64mb?

Thanks,

Art

re .220: I used to have one (long time ago..) - are you sure it accepts
six SIMMs? I wouldn't have thought so.

Apart from that, I think it uses standard 72-pin SIMMs, so anything on
    the market today shoud do.

The 400ST's have two banks of two, for four SIMM slots.
To go beyond that, you need a memory expansion board
which I believe was specific to that PC and I doubt
they are still available.

So assuming you don't have the memory expansion board
your only option to get to 64MB is to throw away (sell)
your 4 8MB SIMMS and replace them with 4 16MB SIMMs.

Since they must be done in pairs you could also keep
a pair of 8MB SIMMs and add a pair of 16MB SIMMs and
end up with 48MB. Not what you wanted, but not bad.

You want a 36-bit (parity) 70ns 72 pin simm. They
are available from every memory retailer.

You could also go to www.kingston.com and get the exact
replacement of the FR-PCTAM-** partnumber but it will be
more expensive than a generic SIMM.
