    I found it interesting that the SB32 pnp (retail package) that I picked
    up last weekend at a show came with more recent drivers than the ones
    on the Creative web site from a couple of weeks ago. The box says
    week-40 of '96, so I'm left wondering why they don't update their site
    more often.

    update was 24-Jan-97 They have update it twice this year for NT4.0
    alone.

560.360,Creative WaveSynth S/W Upgrade SPSEG::BRAMSONThu Feb 20 1997 15:447
    For existing AWE32 users, CL now has a software updrage (Creative
    WaveSynth) to bring the AWE32 up to 64 voice polyphony. There is a
    catch, however. If you are the proud owner of either an AMD or Cyrix
    CPU, then you CANNOT use this software. It must be that this software
    is using specific Intel instructions (not sure). I have posed this
    question to CL, as well as whether an AWE64 would work in a system with
    an non Intel CPU. Just thought I would pass the word.

Creative Labs' drivers have been a frustration to me of late.

If I use the old drivers, everything works, but some narrowly defined
animations are very jerky (Virtual Encounters and Cinemania -- on a P-166,
64MB, 7200 RPM wide SCSI drive, PCI SCSI controller, 4MB Number 9
Motion-771 Video card and an 8x Toshiba IDE CD-ROM, and I get jerky
animation!).

If I use their latest "full duplex" drivers, no problems with animations,
but .WAV intensive applications (games, like Full Tilt pinball) crash the
driver to the point that I get no .WAV files until I reboot.

Anyone got any suggestions?
560.362MIDI cable/adapter for SB cardsfievel.shr.dec.com::FILGATEBruce Filgate SHR3-2/W4 237-6452Mon Apr 07 1997 17:487
 Does Creative Labs make a cable that allows the SB16 to connect to
 both a joy stick and to a midi keyboard? I have been looking for the
 part number to no avail. It could be that this product is something
 more than just a cable.

Yes, they do - it's just a cable. Dunno where to find it, though.

Gravis also makes one. (I have one in use on my home system).
You might check a bookstore for a book that shows the diagram
for the box. It's pretty simple, you just need a couple of
opto-isolators. One of the joystick port's pins is the MIDI
out and another the MIDI in.
560.365...anyone got a name/part number for the SB midi cable?fievel.shr.dec.com::FILGATEBruce Filgate SHR3-2/W4 237-6452Tue Apr 08 1997 08:1513
 I don't really want to build this adapter, I would prefer
 to just have a part number and buy it!

 Actually son #2 has a computer with a SB16 with a MS joy
 stick. Son #1 has a fancy music keyboard with a midi
 port. The two of them would like to plug the systems
 together once in awhile.

 I thought that Adaptec used to call it an MP---, but I am
 unable to locate such a part number.

    Well, my SB16 manual says "a Y-cable is available from Creative Labs
    (Y-cables from other manufacturers may not work)."

  Probably true but I'm using the Y-cable/box I got for my PAS16 on my
  Soundblaster. At least the MIDI part works. Since I don't play computer
  games I can't say out it works for a game controller thingy.

    I think you can order it directly from www.creaf.com look at their
    customer dervice phone numbers (800-number) and call it. I called the
    other day to order a new set of disks for my soundblaster, and as I
    remeber, the recording said "accessories" were available as well.

re <<< Note 560.369 by FABSIX::T_PLAHM >>>

I don't know if this will help, but open up control panel and double-click on
the Multimedia Icon. Select the Advanced tab and click the Joystick device
you want to disable. There should be a checkbox labeled "disable this device".
Try checking it and see what happens.
