    	I've gotten the dried out cartridges on my Canon printers and cured
    with a little Isopropal alcohol on a Q-tip. After wiping the printer
    cartridge area where the ink comes out, re-install it and run a test
    sheet through. I still using a cartridge that I would have thrown away
    months ago if I hadn't of done this.

	I hope someone can help. My sister bought a Canon BJC-240 Photo Bubble
Jet printer. after about a day, we got it to print using the black ink. When
we change to color ,it printed, but only on the left side of the paper. 

	To get it to print using the black ink , I had to change the printer
port from "ecp printer port" to just "printer port" (I think thats what it said)
could this be the problem with the color setup? I sister called Canon and they 
had her change from "color printer" to "photo printer", but after doing this
we couldn't print anything. So I change it back. sould the setup be "photo
printer" and the port being "ecp printer port". 

	She has a Compaq Presiou (spelling??), with 24mb ram, running windows
95.

    Both Compaq and Canon's web site has special instructions for this
    combo of printer and PC. As I recall the canon site said to install
    the Service pack for W95 and config the printer port as printer port
    with NOdma.    www.canon.com

    Want to share this with whoever might run into this problem.
    I have a BJC-610 which one day stopped working at power-up with
    "ink sensor is broken". The status window which popped up showed me how
    to pack my printer and send it in for repair. *%*^%$%&!
    
    Called Canon support and after a couple of pushing phone keys and
    switching numbers I finally had a technician on the line. Told the
    symptoms and he claimed he can fix this over the phone but I have to be
    at the printer. And here's the fix which seems like a general reset:
    
    	- unplug power cable
    	- unplug printer cable
    	- green lever next to print head in forward or letter position
    	- hold down Power and FF button and plug in power cable
    	  hold down until it beeps, this starts a lenghty sessions
    	  of clicks-and-clacks and print head chasing left and right
    	  until it beeps twice and the power light stops flashing
    
    Repeat the same session with the green lever in envelope position.
    Once this has completed put the lever back to letter position, unplug
    the power cable again, plug in the printer cable and the power cable
    and push the power button.
    
    The service guy told me this does among other things a recalibration
    of the ink sensor. And no...this can't be done with a mouse click.
    I have to bow before the engineer who put that in ... the magic thing.

    What's the difference between the BJC-610 and the BJC-620?
    

I'm looking at purchasing a BJC-4550 (need a MAC interface) or the comparable HP printer,
the model # of which (870-CSE?) escapes me right now.  Anyone have comments on either of
these printers? Comparison's?

    a "salesperson" told me that they spoke with the canon rep about the
    difference's between the 610 and 620 and was told "only the software".
    
    I have the 610 and have purchased for out church daycare and two
    friends the 620, and see only some "cosmetic" differences between the
    two, and yes, the software with the 620 includes more (curious george,
    kids story book, and a couple of others that I don't remember.
    
    I paid 529 dollars for my 610 a year and half ago, and the 620 started
    out at around 380. Lately, at costco, I saw it for 349 or so.
    
    I love the printer, great quality, great tech support, and 4 seperate
    ink tanks.

    WinNT 4.0 driver support for the 610, 620 and several other previously
    unsupported on NT Connon printers can be found @
    ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/Nt4bjc2.exe.  Unfortunately,
    the "service pack of death", SP2, is required.  I think I'll wait until
    SP3 is available.  :-)

    Sorry I didnt see your note earlier.  by now you probably got it solved
    but just in case.
    
    Check the paper setting on the printer setup.  
    
    The BJC-240 cannot sense what type of ink cartridge is installed.  Also
    the Cannon driver has a setting for High res paper and plain paper
    (among others).  If you have it set for High Res paper then it assumes
    you want to print in high resolution with a BC-06 ink cartridge.  If you
    have a BC-05 or a BC-02 ink cartridge in (which are low res 320 DPI) then 
    you only get half the page printed on and you get the squished look. 
    If you put a BC-06 cart in and print on the high res paper setting then 
    you will get a full page.    
    
    In summary BC-05 and BC-02 you need to set it for Plain paper.
    You use the High Res paper setting only if you have a BC-06 ink
    cartridge.

    Question on Photo ink Cartridge.
    
    First of all I am cheap.
    
    I am looking for a way to refill the BC-06 ink cartridges for my
    BJC-240 printer.  I have used the Pelikan Z620 to refill the BC-02
    (black) and the Pelkin P658K (DEC colorwriter 120ic) refill kit for the
    BC-05 I have also used the Dataproducts HP51649A refill kit to refill the
    BC-05.  But if I use the DP HP51649A refill kit on the BC-06 it drips
    out of the jets and make messy smudges instead of nice looking
    printouts.   
    
    Since there appears to be a lot of Photo type ink cartridges on the
    market for a variety of printers has anybody noticed any Ink refill kits
    that work on the photo (hi res) ink cartridges?
