I am also getting the error noted in.292.
    I'm running V6.0 with W'95. I've tried direct connecting w/ proxy and
also dial-in via my ISP (TIAC). "test drive" of both connections under
set-up work fine. Neither work when I try to make a link to Quicken
Live to perfomr stock updates/Quicken 6 updates.

Re: .293 - What proxy server worked? I am using www-proxy.crl.dec.com
but have also tried www-proxy.pa.dec.com also with same results.

530.305corrupt QMT file in Vs 4.0 for DosFABSIX::J_SADINFreedom isn't free.Fri Feb 21 1997 12:1717

I'm looking for the utilites disk or a copy of it on the net for
Quicken version 4.0 for Dos. My mum-in-law has a corrupt QMT file and
the QFN web site (http://www.qfn.com) says to copy the utilities disk
from their web site....unfortunately, they don't offer the disk there
anymore for download! All they have is stuff for windows...no DOS
    support.

anyone have this disk or know where I can lay my hands on the
program to fix the corrupt QMT file (I guess it's fairly common for the
to be corrupted)? I've been all over the web with no luck.

Q: Quicken is displaying a message that my Memorized List (QMT) file is
damaged. How do I repair it?

A: When you receive an error message that the Memorized List (QMT) file is
damaged, unreadable, or inconsistent, you may need to run the Rebuild
utility.

Caution!: If you use CheckFree, do not use the Rebuild utility. Contact
Intuit Technical Support for assistance.

Additional Notes

Please review the notes below and, if applicable, locate the section of this
document that addresses your version of Quicken.

   * If you have a current backup, restore the backup and determine if the
     error is corrected.
   * If you have an older backup and have not added many categories, classes
or memorized transactions, you can copy the .QMT file from the backed
up data and overwrite the damaged .QMT.
   * Depending on the version of Quicken, the .QMT file may contain
memorized transactions, categories, classes, transaction groups,
memorized reports, electronic payees, securities, and prices.

The Rebuild utility can only repair minor damage. If the damage is not
repaired with the utility, the data must be submitted to Quicken Data
Recovery. Please contact Intuit Technical Support Center for assistance.

   * The Rebuild utility renames the damaged QDATA.QMT file, calling it
QDATA.MBU. It also creates a new and rebuilt QDATA.QMT file.

Rebuilding the .QMT File

Quicken 3 for DOS

Note: Rebuilding the .QMT file requires the Quicken 3.0 disks labeled Help
Disk and Program Disk. To request copies of these disks, you can:

   * Call Intuit's Customer Service Department at (800) 624-8742, or
   * Download the Help Disk from the Quicken Financial Network via the
     Internet.

  1. Insert the Help disk in drive A: (or B:).
  2. From the Quicken Main menu, press Ctrl+G.
  3. At the Select/Set Up Account Group screen, note the name of the account
group containing the damaged memorized list file. For example, QDATA.
  4. Press F9. The Set Account Group Location window displays.
  5. Note the path name (for example, C:\QUICKEN3\). Then, press Enter.
  6. From Select/Set Up Account Group screen, press Esc (Escape).
  7. From the Quicken Main menu, enter E (Exit).
  8. Go to the DOS prompt (C:\>).
  9. At the C:\ prompt, change the directory to match the location of the
account group. For example, CD QUICKEN3.
 10. At the QUICKEN# prompt, enter the following command as shown in this
     example:

     A:INSTALL/REBUILD QDATA

Note: Substitute the name of your account group for the QDATA account
group name used in the example. If the Help Disk is in the B: drive,
change the drive indicator (A:) to B:.
 11. After completing the rebuild procedure, start Quicken and verify that
your categories, classes, and memorized transactions are correct.

Note: Edit any memorized transactions that may have been altered. Some
categories and classes may need to be renamed. Use the transactions in
your register as a guide. For example, if you have a transaction that
should be categorized as "groceries" and is now "CAT0001", edit the
entry to display the correct category.

Quicken 4 for DOS

Note: Rebuilding the .QMT file requires the Copy/Update Utility disk. To
request a copy of this disk, you can:

   * Call Intuit's Customer Service Department at (800) 624-8742, or
   * Download the Copy/Update Utility Disk from the Quicken Financial
     Network via the Internet.

  1. Insert the Copy/Update Utility disk in drive A: (or B:).
  2. From the Quicken Main menu, press Ctrl+G.
  3. At the Select/Set Up Account Group screen, press F9. The Set Account
     Group Location window displays.
  4. Note the path name (for example, C:\QUICKEN4\). Then, press Enter.
  5. From the Select/Set Up Account Group screen, note the name of the file
that has the damaged memorized list file. For example, QDATA.
  6. Press Esc (Escape).
  7. From the Quicken Main menu, enter E (Exit).
  8. Go to the DOS prompt (C:\>).
  9. At the C:\ prompt, change the directory to match the location of the
account group. For example, CD QUICKEN4.
 10. At the QUICKEN# prompt, enter the following command as shown in this
     example:

     A:UPDATE/REBUILD QDATA

Note: Substitute the name of your account group for the QDATA account
group name used in the example. If the Copy/Update Utility disk is in
the B: drive, change the drive indicator (A:) to B:.

  5. Press Esc (Escape).
  6. From the Quicken Main menu, enter E (Exit).
  7. Go to the DOS prompt (C:\>).
  8. At the C:\ prompt, change to the directory where the Quicken program is
     installed. For example, CD QUICKEN.
  9. Verify that the REBUILD.OVL file is located in the Quicken program
directory by typing Dir *.ovl and press Enter.
 10. At the QUICKEN prompt, rename the file by entering the following
     command:

     REN REBUILD.OVL REBUILD.EXE
 11. If your data is stored in a different directory from the Quicken
program files, at the QUICKEN prompt, enter the following command as
     shown in this example:

     COPY REBUILD.EXE C:\QUICKEN\DATA

Note: This command copies the REBUILD.EXE file to the directory in
which your data is located. In this example, the directory is
C:\QUICKEN\DATA. If the data already resides in the program directory,
     do not copy it.
 12. Type the following command as shown in this example, substituting the
name of your file for QDATA.

     REBUILD QDATA

530.312Dividend reinvestments and online updates...NETCAD::THAYER...the hegemony of clarity...Tue Feb 25 1997 11:4313
I am considering purchasing Quicken to help me keep
track of my investments. In particular the feature
which does online portfolio updates appeals to me.

But first a question - do these online updates also
account for dividend reinvestments? I.e. do they
automagically increase shares owned by the correct
	proportion whenever companies/mutual funds issue
dividends? Or would I have to manually enter that
	info from the quarterly statement?

			Thanks, John

Near as I can tell, there is no way to automatically account
for dividend reinvestments. You have to manually enter the
amounts by hand.

On a different point, I refuse to use online updates. There
is so much information that can be transmitted without
your knowledge that I refuse to connect online when
personal information is on the disk.

FYI - merc.com provides free email updates on your investments.
It attaches security prices in Quicken format that can
be easily imported. Works just fine.

530.314Anyone using Quicken V6 and checkfree?MARVIN::CLEVELANDFri Mar 14 1997 08:1925
I noticed that Checkfree now allows payments to be scheduled 4 business
days in advance (used to be 5). However, Quicken V5 will always force
the date to 5 business days ahead when you write an 'electronic' check.
I asked Checkfree if there was any way around this and they said:

"Checkfree Manager for Windows 2.0 is the only software that allows you
to send payments four business days ahead of time instead of five"

Is anyone using Checkfree with Quicken V6? Is it still forcing
    payments 5 business days out?

BTW, I did download and try Checkfree Manager, it isn't worth the effort --

        - Need to do double entry processing (ie, export transactions from
          Checkfree MGR into Quicken).

        - Can't switch between Checkfree Mgr and Quicken, as Checkfree
keeps some 'transaction count' on the host; if you switch it
thinks a bunch of transactions got lost and refuses to accept the
          transmission

        - Many, many problems dialing, connecting, transmitting the checks
(using the same modem, even calling the same Compuserve access
          number!)
