Wanted: cheap working PC monitor for our church.

    As a follow on to 2877.8, did anyone upgrade their VLB motherboard to a
    Pentium and be willing to sell a good VLB EIDE controller?  Must have
    16550 serial ports included and be capable of LBA.  As an option, would
    anyone have an extra serial port card, again with 16550 chip for high
    speed external modem (28.8).

A technically dated guy looking for a simple compiler / interpreter
language that will run under W95 or WFW.  Perhaps something like
QuickBasic or (gawd forbid) Cobol.  Any kits laying around?  

I have both Visual C++ and VisualBasic kits but I just don't have time
to learn them.  My application does not need all the visual wiz-bangs.
Just simple text manipulation, little arithmetic, table lookups and record I/O. 

Any products or ideas?

tim - you can't get much simpler that V-Basic!  stop by some time and I'll have
you runnning in 15 minutes or less!

      You might want to mention what type of interface you are looking for
    in the CD-ROM drive.  I have an old proprietary drive.  Not sure of the
    interface name, but it worked on a PAS16.

    The newer AMD 486 DX4 chips don't work in old ASUS PVI-486SP3
    motherboards.  AMD seems to have 'enhanced' them in a way that
    renders them inert in some not-so-current boards.  Would someone
    like to swap  their 'old' AMD 486-DX100 for my 'new' model?  Be
    prepared with the model number off the chip.

    The Obediah Brown public school (an inner city school) in Providence, RI 
    is in need of an Intel server to serve 10 networked PCs that were just 
    donated to them last week.
    
    Is there anyone out there who has a suitable system and would like a
    tax deduction?  I think the minimum system to support the network
     would have to be a DX4-100 with a 1Gb hard drive, and a CD.  Of
    course, all donations are welcome.

You might want to check out:  http://www.onsale.com/   (Modems/Soundcards)

They currently have a new PAS-16 w/SCSI that you can probably
get for $30-$60.  If you're not familiar, ONSALE is an on-line
auction clearinghouse for new and refurbed equipment.  The prices
can be very good to poor depending on the particular auction.

I think the PAS-16 ended up selling for $60 on Wednesday's auction --
it is currently bidding at $30 and the auction closes this afternoon.

I think I saw a reference here about a dec part number for a 5V adapter or 
5V variant for an AMD 5x86 133mhz chip, but I cannot now find it... 
What I think I saw may not even have been here, but there are not many other
places I would have seen it... 

Does anyone know what part I have in mind, or where I saw it ??

Intel :^) are the only folks left that I can find that do 5V 486(...) 100+ chips.
Cyrix and AMD used to but I can now only find 3.x versions.
There are a couple of ads over here for Intel 5V chips and also 
a 5-3 adapter card [$44 ouch]. Try www.pcprogress.com f'rinstance.
I did once see a chip with converted that came from a DEC PC
but I have no idea what the DECspeak for it would be...

Looking for a 16MB module for a DECpc 425SE/433SE (aka AST Explorer).

I'll swap my 4MB module and some $$$.

	Wondering what to do with that old system you spent thousands on and 
now has a street price of $300?

	American Stage Festival in Nashua and Milford NH (where I volunteer) is
looking for equipment donations so that they can equip the summer staff, mainly
for word processing applications.  Being an arts organization, they have no 
money to spend but they can offer you a tax write-off for the value of the
donated equipment.

	For their purposes, any 486 system (and possibly 386) system would be
great.  They'd even be happy to take your old 14" monitors and <=500 meg drives.
Complete systems (no need for audio) would be best but even parts might be
useful. (If you *want* to donate better stuff, don't let this stop you.)
