336.0. "error unshelving a restored file (HSM$BACKUP) !" by ATZIS1::KARTNER_M (HOUSTON, we have a problem) Wed Apr 23 1997 07:03
    Hi!

    I've got a question regarding NON IMAGEBACKUP restores of
    shelved files:

    When doing a NONIMAGE restore of a shelved file, accessing the
    restored file results in an access error unless a SMU ANALYZE/REPAIR
    is done. Afterwards everthing works as expected again (see below).

    I don't understand how this error can happen. A needed UNSHELVE
    opperation should access the file in the archive directly bypassing
    the catalog. But the ACE information is restored correctly (points
    to the correct archive , volume saveset) so there should be no problem.

    I know that after a nonimage restore to a disk the catalog isn't
    correct any more becouse of the new FIDs. So I HAVE to run a
    ANALYZE in the long run to fix the catalog but this should be not
    required for unshelving.

    REASON: IF I have to restore huge parts of a disk using the
    	    BACKUP PARADIGMA, no user can access the restored data
    	    before an ANALYZE/REPAIR is completed, but this will take
    	    a long time for a device containing 100.000 files. This
    	    may be a performance consideration that kills the usage
    	    of the backup paradigma

    								thanks

| 336.1 | only workaround to do an UNSHELVE/OVERRIDE ? | ATZIS1::KARTNER_M | HOUSTON, we have a problem | Wed Apr 23 1997 07:39 | 9 |
|  |     Hi!

    Is the only workaround to do an UNSHELVE/OVERRIDE for the restored
    tree ?
    I don't really like this solution becouse you may fail to recoginse
    real catalog problems by useing the /override qualifier

    								thanks
