  	How can i recover files from cache if the on line files are deleted ?
  
  
  
  	Ex: After  Shelving a file (for example .txt), and deleting the on line 
  file, I use the command SMU LOCATE and I try to copy the file from the cache.
  After that , it's impossible to see something (the file is empty). The record 
  format is undefined in the cache.

What version of HSM are you using?  Prior to V2.1, EOF on the cache
files was not set correctly which prevented cache files from being
viewed (typed, etc.).  This problem was most likely introduced in
V2.0/V2.0A.  This problem did not interfere with unshelving.  Here
is a sample DUMP of one of these cache files:

If this is what you are seeing, you might want to try a SET FILE/END
on the cache file and retry your copy.

  	I don't remember the version of HSM, but that's right there is no 
  Problem with unshelving. I will ask to the customer to try "Set file/end", but 
  i can't give you the result before 14-apr-97, because he is to DECUS and after 
  that in Holidays.

  	That's ok after Upgrading To HSM V2.1.
  
  	But somes files Shelved before upgrade cannot be unshelved with error 
  HSM "%HSM-E-OFFLINERROR, offline system error, function not performed", and 
  VMS error "%BACKUP-E-VBNPASTEOF,". How can i recover these files???

  	Yes, SMU LOCATE and restore from Archive works but EOF of the file is no 
  set due to previous version of HSM, and "SET FILE/END" does not put "carriage 
  return" --> all data are sequential in the file. With "DIR/FULL", the record 
  format is "undefined, maximum 0 bytes, longest 0 bytes".
