The Folk Song Society is very pleased to welcome back Margaret Nelson &
Phil Cooper in a rare New England concert. This Chicago duo, who describe
their music as "Strong Old Music", has roots in Lutheran church music,
opera and '60s folk music. Since having started performing together over
fourteen years ago, they bring to their audiences a rich,
mostly-traditional, evening of Scots, Irish, English and other traditional
balladry and tunes ranging from bawdy to bloody to bonny.
Margaret Nelson & Phil Cooper have been performing together since 1982.
Phil's expressive tenor voice and mastery on guitar, cittern, and bowed
psaltry, combine with Margaret's clear contralto and artful autoharp,
percussion and puns. With over 200 songs and tunes in their repertoire,
they have played at festivals, coffeehouses, schools, house concerts and
all around North America, and have recorded 11 albums on their own
"Porcupine's Progress" label.
