I have a customer who has a lot of applications written in VAX
BASIC and the customer want to migrate their applications to
Alpha in a short time.
what's the best alternative for me to migrate these applications
if time has to be as short as possible ? Will DECmigrate (VEST)
the best choice to do ?

No, use DEC BASIC on Alpha, it is highly compatible with VAX BASIC
(they share common front-end code). I would suggest getting a copy
of the DEC BASIC release notes, which describe the differences in
the products, to share with your customer.
I can't think of any reason to use VEST at this point, you want to
use the native compiler to get the best performance and maintainability.
In addition, VEST and VAX BASIC were never best of friends.

| Last I heard, the VAX BASIC RTL was really difficult to VEST, though at least
one customer was trying really hard at it.
