OpenVMS Vax V6.1

A customer is getting an INVALID LOCK ID error when he calls
ppl$create_application.  This call is to join an existing application,
and is the 3rd process to join the application.  The other two
processes are running the same image with the exception that the
third is build and linked with debug.

Does anyone have any ideas what this is all about?  Any additional
information that would be helpful?

And, does it even matter?  I now that ppl has been officially retired
for openvms v7.1, but am unsure as to support of versions prior to
7.1.
