5873.0. "SHOW KNOWN NODES doesn't show an entry" by TAGAUS::AURAND () Mon Feb 24 1997 08:21

Hi,

a customer encountered a strange Problem under DECnet for OpenVMS Alpha V6.2.
The NCP command SHOW KNOWN NODES only shows the nodes defined in AREA 20 (only
DECservers), the 'real' DECnet nodes in the AREA 1 aren't shown and also a
$SHOW NETWORK doesn't show any entry. But doing a expilicit show for one node
works. The problem occured two times during normal runtime in the last month.

NCP>show node 1.11
Node Volatile Summary as of 24-FEB-1997 14:06:37
    Node State Active Delay Circuit Next node
                              Links
 1.11 (IM11)     reachable       2       0    EWA-0         1.1 (IM1)

NCP>show kno node
Known Node Volatile Summary as of 24-FEB-1997 14:04:44
Executor node = 1.4 (IM4)
State                    = on
Identification = DECnet for OpenVMS AXP V6.2
Active links             = 146
    Node State Active Delay Circuit Next node
                              Links
20.15 (SERV15)   unreachable
....

I looked at the Poolparamter, NETACP Process Quota and everything seems to be
ok.

Any ideas what could be the cause of this problem ?

	Many thanks in advance

		Andreas

5873.1No Host-Based Phase IV Routing Under OpenVMS AlphaXDELTA::HOFFMANSteve, OpenVMS EngineeringWed Feb 26 1997 13:0412
   There's no host-based DECnet Phase IV routing under OpenVMS Alpha.

   I'd expect to see this sort of reachability information generally
   maintained only on DECnet routers... When nodes are showing in the
   `links' display, there are likely active links from the host to the
   specified remote hosts.

   DECservers do not use DECnet, and should never show with an active
   DECnet link. (DECservers use DECnet MOP or LANCP MOP protocols for
   the console connection and for the download.)

    Hi Steve,

    I totally missed the point, that the Alphas are configured as 'Area
    Routers'. I will tell the customer to change one node to Routing IV
    (for Cluster Alias) and the others to Nonrouting IV.

    	Thanks  Andreas
