3301.0. "Password field remains blank" by PRIME8::VAUGHN (Mike Vaughn DTN 339-5325) Mon Jun 02 1997 17:45

Hello -

I've asked this question here before, but I have a little more info
now, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to fix it. When I
use my account on my NT Alpha system (actually, the NT system is in a local
domain, and my account is in Digital1) I am unable to successfully enter
a password in the accounts tab. It lets me enter the password, but if I leave
that tab and come back later, it's blank again. I can make any other changes
on that tab (or any other tab) and they are correctly saved. For instance,
I can choose to be prompted for the password, and that works fine. A look in
the registry does indeed show a blank for the string in the Password field.

Interestingly, if I use an Administrator account, this problem does NOT
exist. I can add/modify password fields with no problems whatsoever (and the
registry is correctly modified) from either a local administrator account or
a remote administrator account. I've tried to enable auditing to capture the
failed file access to no avail. In fact, I've tried quite a few things, all
unsuccessfuly. BTW, I've tried to use other accounts (besides Administrator)
and they exhibit the same problems. This is a new machine; I had the same problem
on an older system.

NT V4.0

eXcursion V3.0.554

Accounts that don't work: Digital1\vaughn (added to the administrators group on
	my system)

Accounts that work: Administrator (local) Administrator (from our resource domain).

Any ideas??

Thanks.
