3249.0. "mouse playing hide-and-seek" by UTRTSC::FOLKER () Wed Mar 05 1997 04:46

    Hello

I have read several notes about disappearing mouses. Here is another
    one:

Platform TULIP PC with a ProMotion video controller based on the
    AT24 chip. Running Windows 3.1
After starting a terminal session the mouse disappears behind the
window. The customer can use the mouse but he must guess where the
    mouse is pointing at.

Whe already tried the ZDebugKey parameter in the XCREG.INI file
without succes. The customer now has installed an ATI video controller
    to solve the problem.

We downloaded from the www.alsc.com page the latest drivers available
for the ProMotion AT24 video controller. (V1.7.25)

What can cause this problem, the video controller or .......?
and why does eXcursion only have those mouse problems ? Does eXcursion
uses the mouse in a more sophisticated way ?

I've never seen this one with Windows 3.x. Only with Windows 95 and
NT 4.0. The 2.1 code checks to see if it's running on Win95 before
it implements the nocursor workaround. So the setting has no effect on NT or
Win 3.1 (or WfW) systems. 3.0 apparently fixes it so that NT 4 users don't
see this problem, but 3.0 is not a solution for Windows or WfW users.

More sophisticated? No. Just different. X uses font "glyphs" to represent
cursors. So some X applications change the cursor representation when you move
into their windows. Some video drivers apparently just can't cope with the
cursor fonts.

Perhaps the 2.1 code needs to be updated to not check for Windows 95 before
implementing the workaround.

Hello Gary

Thanks for the responce, the customer for the moment uses extra ATI
video controllers, and will upgrade to Windows 95 in the near future.
So don't bother about changing the 2.1.309 version to let the
effective for windows 3.1
