3231.0. "maximum length for command..." by NETCAD::BARENYS (John Barenys) Mon Feb 03 1997 09:50

Hi all...

I am currently running V3.0.554 of eXcursion
on an Alpha box and am pretty happy with it... for a while
now I have noted this behavior and did not know what to make
of it...

On my Alpha NT box I have an application that is defined
with the command (under the "applications" tab):

/usr/bin/X11/color_xterm -sb -sl 1024 -fg grey
-bg black -ls -title hobbes -n hobbes

(all of this one one line of course :) )...

what I found is that if I use the same command on a Win95
system I get a window that tells me that "this program
has performed and illegal operation and will be shut down."

If I shorted the command (i.e. delete a few of the options) the
command executes fine... I have tried deleting one option and then
another to find a conflict... but it seems more like a limitation
on the length of the command...

ANy ideas... if you like more detail I can provide it as this is
something that I can reproduce at will on any Win95 box.

For info the system that I am trying to launch off of is a Linux 2.0
machine.

It is an issue with the length of the command. Make sure that when you
define the "account" you select the "command interpreter" that is
appropriate for your environment. Do *not* choose "Any" since this
causes a much longer string to be sent to the rexec daemon.

I could swear I QARed this one, but now I'm not sure....

Gary,
Thanks for the work-around... I set the proper
interpreter and all is fine....
