| Hi Peggy,
While technically unsupported (DECset V12.2 will support VMS V7.1), we
have been running CMS V3.8-2 here on VMS V7.1 without any problems.

OpenVMS engineering has been using V3.8-2 under OpenVMS V7.1 for a
while now, and has had no problems -- other than the (previously
reported) inability to fetch indexed files out of the CMS library.

| Just in case clarification might be needed, the problem with fetching
indexed files is specific to CMS V3.8-2 on Alpha systems and has
nothing to do with VMS V7.1. It's fixed for CMS V3.9, due out as part
of DECset V12.2.

2479.5 | Does CMS-V3.9 solves this kind of problem ? | PADKOA::COSTEUX | Le Plat Pays qui est le mien... | Wed Apr 16 1997 07:25 | 16 |
| I've a customer who gets the following errors while fetching an indexed
file (does CMS V3.9 could solve it ?):
%CMS-E-NOFETCH, error fetching element DISK$CMS_RSRP:[CMS_RSRP.RSRP_DATA]
R_BATCH.IDX
-CMS-E-OPENOUT, error opening !AS for output
-CMS-E-OPENOUT, error opening DISK$RSRPDEV:[RSRPDEV]R_BATCH.IDX; for
output
-RMS-E-NPK, no primary key defined for indexed file
%CMS-F-BADBUG, there is an unrecoverable bug in CMS or something it
calls
-CMS-F-RBKNOTOPEN, File passed to rollback is not open

| If somebody has CMS-V3.9 installed can I ask him (her) to try to create an
element (I can provide one 36 blocks long) from an indexed file then to
fetch it to check if the problem mentionned above occurs or not ?
Thanks for help.

| Hi Jean-Pierre,
Yes, we've tested that the problem is in fact fixed in CMS T3.9-1 on
both VAX and Alpha. But you can ask for a second opinion if you want.

Hello,
When will CMS V3.8-2 be technically supported under open vms 7.1?
Thanks, sorry if this was answered elsewhere -

| Hi Liz,
As far as I know, there are no plans for DECset V12.1 to support VMS
V7.1 officially; this would include CMS V3.8-2. DECset V12.2 and CMS
V3.9 will support VMS V7.1.

V3.8-2 works just fine on V7.1, save for the discussion of problems
found earlier in this thread -- the problems are not specific to the
OpenVMS version, but to the CMS V3.8-2 version.
