1493.0. "What does "Unexpected error initializing kernel threads: 0x6 mean?" by EDSCLU::GARROD (IBM Interconnect Engineering) Mon Feb 24 1997 21:51

Does anybody know whast the error:

vpInit: Unexpected error initializing kernel threads: 0x6

    means?

I have't got all the data yet eg what version of the Digital Unix OS
this occurs on. Just hoping for a pointer in the right direction.

Ignore all the stuff about LU6.2 below, that's our server that is a
pthreads user. It's the vpInit error I'm asking here about.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Subj:	DULU62 3.1 Kit 8 (Feb 21 - Dumps core) : Notes conference not accepting writes

Hi,
I've tried to enter the following note in the conference 3 times,
but have been declined with an error message stating :" Your note has
not been added to the conference." I'll add the information to the
conference as soon as I have access again.

P1: Core dump of all lu62 images on start up after installing
kit 8 (Last friday).

When starting up the lu62_services I receive the following:

CSCIBM# /sbin/rc3.d/S91_lu62_startup start
Starting LU6.2 Attach Manager Daemon...DECthreads bugcheck (version V3.13-435),
terminating execution.
vpInit: Unexpected error initializing kernel threads: 0x6
/sbin/rc3.d/S91_lu62_startup: 7602 Abort - core dumped
(FAILED)
Starting LU6.2 Server LU62_SRV...DECthreads bugcheck (version V3.13-435),
terminating execution.
vpInit: Unexpected error initializing kernel threads: 0x6
/sbin/rc3.d/S91_lu62_startup: 7701 Abort - core dumped
Starting LU6.2 Server KHR_SRV...DECthreads bugcheck (version V3.13-435),
terminating execution.
vpInit: Unexpected error initializing kernel threads: 0x6
/sbin/rc3.d/S91_lu62_startup: 7711 Abort - core dumped
CSCIBM# ps -e | grep erver
CSCIBM#

On the 3.2G system, this problem did not appear.

1493.1Check the kernel config.WTFN::SCALESDespair is appropriate and inevitable.Tue Feb 25 1997 11:2210
Um, it would have been nice to know what version of which operating system
this problem is occurring on...but I'll presume it's Digital Unix V4.0a (and
maybe it doesn't matter).

Error #6 is KERN_RESOURCE_SHORTAGE. So, you need to check the kernel
configuration. (I have no idea which resource is in shortage...try wired
memory or threads (in task, system, and per-user).

    Re .1

Thanks. I thought it might be some kernel misconfig problem. I'll pass
    that back to my user.
