Hello, We used to have a direct connection between a W618 and an ALCATEL machine, (V.36/V.11 interface), working fine at 64000 bps. The clock for the corresponding MODEM CONNECT LINE W618-4-0 is Internal. The line is a X.25 line. The speed parameter (in the characteristics partition) is 64000 and the Actual Speed ( in the status partition) is also 64000. Now we set up the speed to 128000, which is supported but the Actual Speed still shows 64000, while the speed parameter has been changed. The connection works fine because X.25 applications work OK, but the customer (and me) is wondering what is really the speed we are working: 128K or 64K ? I've read other related notes in this conference but I'm confused because even I've read that the internal clock in not supported for the W618 ?? Or the Actual Speed value has a limit ?? The cables are ALCATEL cables, not ours. The DECNIS version is 4.0. Thanks in avance for any clarification, Jose Ignacio Lopez NSIS Spain

>I've read other related notes in this conference but I'm confused because >even I've read that the internal clock in not supported for the W618 ?? >Or the Actual Speed value has a limit ?? Internal clock is not, and never will be, supported on any of the WAN devices, except for async DDCMP on W618/4 up to 9k6. For sync operation the W614/8 generates a clock at 64000 Hz, it is intended for loop testing operation only. To be supported the customer needs to get an external source for the clock, either a modem eliminator, a real modem, or get the remote device to source the clock if it supports that. John | |||||
