Our largest customer in Greece MTB bank is installing an ATM
(teller machines) network using X25 relay pvcs.
The configuration is as following:

We have setup "X25 RELAY PVC llc2-1-lapb" between LLC2 dte-0 on NIS1
and remote LAPB DTE-4-3 on NIS2. Everything works fine under "normal
conditions".
Our problems start if the ATM is swiched off and on again then the system
can not send data to the ATM. The data are sent to the NIS1 dte-0 but never
reach the NIS2 DTE-4-3. On the other hand data sent from the ATM to the host
arrive at CYGNUS dte-0. All Decnet entities status look O.K. To reestablish
normal communication we have to DISABLE and REENABLE the "X25 RELAY PVC
llc2-1-lapb". Does this sound right? How can the application reestablish
the PVC link? Is the X25 RELAY PVC doing what is supposed to do?
The case is quite critical because we have to prove to the bank that the
Decnis is doing what it should do and the application should take care for
the recovery.If this is the case how the application can do that?
Any help will be greatelly appreciated.
I am attaching the trace files I collected with some comments.The original
trace files are available on ATHINA:: as MTB_HOST.DAT and MTB_NIS2.DAT

Yes the data sent by ATM arrive at the host llc2 dte and all get confirmed but application is not responding. So the next step is to try to reestablish connection from host thats why you see the sequence of resets initiated manually from the host. After the restarts the host is trying to send data to the atm, the data arrive at NIS1 llc2 dte but is not confirmed.(Relay function seems to be hanging in this direction) On the next step the ATM initiates a transaction and data reaches the host dte (Relay seems to be working in this direction). >>> In the "failed" state, what do the NIS1 and NIS2 DTE statuses >>> and PVC statuses look like from NCL? The NIS1 llc2 dte dte-0 is always in state RUNNING. The NIS2 Lapb dte dte-4-3 is synchronising after LAPB link timeout then as soon as the LAPB link is reestablished the NIS2 dte comes up and it sends the RSTRT C=07 D=00 and the ATM dte is responding with a RSTRT C=00 D=00 (This is shown in NIS2 trace "ATM restart sect.") As profiles we are using in the LLC2 DTE ISO8881 with all default values and in the LAPB link ISO8208 again with all default values. Do we have to change any timer values? All PVC statuses are Allocated = True. I tried deleting and recreating the host llc2 dte pvc then reallocating the PVC from the application but nothing changed. The only way to get out of this situation is to disable the "X25 relay PVC" wich in turns deletes the 2 X25 Access Ports no NIS1 and the the 1 X25 Access port on NIS2 then by reenabling the relay all X25 Access ports are recreated and everything works fine. Why do you think the X25 relay is behaving differently in one direction than the other? Any help will be greatelly appreciated. Argyris. | |||||
