| Andrew,
What is the "Source" attribute for the route, with a preference of 100
it sounds like an ISIS L2 External rather than an OSPF route.

| re .1,
In my testing network, I only have DECnis500 and BR90, so I believe
this default route was sent by Br90, yes, it's preference is 100 with
the magic path metric and NO PATH NEXT HOP info at all.
What happen when I reboot the decnis and at the same time, I disable
static to OSPF redistribution, then the default route entry in DECnis
is gone. So I say the default route was sent from BR90, but one thing I
do not understand is that even I put the DECnis and br90 onto the same
Ethernet, I stil got that default route on the decnis (if I enable
static to OSPF redistribution).
What should I do next to isolate the problem. (customer would like to
have the static route redistribute via BR90 to DECNises (there are 10
DECnises) to mininize the changes when they migrate to new private
address space).
thanks in advance for help!

I don't think it was sent by the Br90, I think its the ISIS pseudo
default route to the nearest L2 router. Try making the DECNIS a
L2 router to see if the route goes away.
The route itself is acting as a discard route so its not forwarding
packets. It will be a problem hwoever if you have any OSPF type-2
external routes since they will be masked by this route.
Please enter a reply if making the DECNIS an L2 router removes
the route.

| Alternatively, disable integrated ISIS on the DECNIS.

3559.5 | Sorry, I cannot test it again, but use static route instead! | SNOFS1::63496::CHIUANDREW | | Sun Mar 02 1997 19:35 | 17 |
| re .3/.4
Sorry for the late reply!
We do not have enough time to disable Int-IS or set it as L2 router.
What we did is to stop receiving static route propgation Br90 to
DECnis, and use static route on ALL decnises so that it will have lower
preference (e.g. 80), due to limited resoureces that I have so I cannot
do any futher testing. But one thing, I agree is even we 'delete' the
static route on BR90, we still see the magic default route, then we
just use static route on decnises to avoid any futher down time to
customer's network.
Again DEcnis had bee configured as L1 router only (we are using RVP).
thanks again for help!
