Our customer is looking for a set of backbone router routing DECnet. They are currently looking for DECnis or CISCO. Cisco has the advantage of easy configuration via telnet console, without the need of a load host. Can DECnis V4.x provide an equivalent feature. An initial (first-time) load via a load host to get the operating system into flash is no problem, but : Is it possible to make modifications to the running DECnis via Telnet and write back this config-change into flash for next time reboot, like CISCO (or DECbrouter90) can provide ? That is an key issue. If DECnis can do it, we can sell our router, because of better Error-Correction/automatic retransmition at network level. regards Ralf.

3554.1 | snapshot of configuration is not possible | MARVIN::HIGGINSON | Peter Higginson DTN 830 6293, Reading UK | Mon Mar 03 1997 03:09 | 10 |
It would be possible to give an ncl command to the DECNIS, make the same change to the ncl script on the load host (eg via cut and paste), compile the script and dynamically update the CMIP file in flash. In general using the windows configurator is so much easier than telnet on the console that it is the best way to do it. Sorry, Peter |
