4429.0. "DECconcentrator 900 MX and snmp traps." by GADWAL::W_MCGAW () Wed May 21 1997 16:47

Hi,

I have a question about the possibility of a DECconcentrator 900 MX being
able to generate traps for ring inits on an FDDI port.

This is the concentrators' model and versions,

         DECconcen 900MX, 6 Port FDDI Concentrator, HW=v2,RO=v1.2,SW=V3.0.1

The customer is using DECmcc and wants to alarm against x number of ring
inits in a give period of time. If the concentrator supports this type of
trap, I can use an occurs type of alarm rule to check for the inits. Is
this possible with either standard or special mibs?

Thank you,

4429.1Sorry, can't do it.NETCAD::GALLAGHERThu May 22 1997 10:1310
Hi,

The DECconcentrator products don't support RMON Alarms and Events.
And no, it's not possible to do this using another "special" MIB.

If you feel RMON Alarm and Event capability (which would solve this
problem) is an important feature for the DECconcentrator family of
products, please contact the product manager. (I'll post his/her
name after I find out.)

4429.2I would like that functionality.GADWAL::W_MCGAWThu May 22 1997 11:4913
    Hi Shawn,

    Thank you for the information. This would be a very handy feature to
    have since it would allow a managment station the ability to find out
    about ring inits without have to poll for the information. In my
    customers case, they have to poll freguently and then implement a
    second rule that checks the number of occurances of the first rule...
    Unfortunately, there are too many areas for this to fail.

    I would be interested in putting in a request for this functionality.

    Thank you,
    Walt
