4425.1 | only IEEE | FORBIN::WILKINSON | | Tue May 20 1997 14:19 | 6 |
| There are not plans to support DEC spanning tree with the VNswitch
products. I think that this has been the trend for all new
bridge products over the last couple of years.

| Thanks!
Now we have to look for another way to do this. But, apart from costs,
I think, also the GIGAswitch does not support DEC SPT.
Any other way than a CISCO with 2 x FDDI ?
Thanks,
Ralph

4425.3 | Now might be a good time to "upgrade" your lab... | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | | Wed May 21 1997 10:00 | 8 |
| Ralph, do you have an actual count of LB100's in your lab that
are really LB100's and not LB150's. The LB150 I believe does
support IEEE STP. So if almost all your "legacy" bridges are
LB150's or even LB200's and a very small number are the older
original LB100's, perhaps there are some opportunities to scale/change
your lab configuration so as to retire the older LB100's.

4425.4 | no easy way | UTOPIE::BRAUN_R | | Thu May 22 1997 04:39 | 11 |
| Hi,
the problem is:
this is a very large bridge network of the Austrian Futures Exchange,
connected directly to some other banks (with extensive bridge filters).
Of course, DEC SPT is in use for historical reasons, but due to the
large number of participants, we have no easy way to change within
the next 1 - 1 1/2 years.
Regards,
Ralph

4425.5 | Contact the Product Manager.... | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | | Thu May 22 1997 10:15 | 13 |
| Sorry, in your base note, I saw your words, "project", and
"test lab", and presumed you were referring to an internal
test lab at a DIGITAL site. Yes, your customer (Austrian Futures
Exchange), is at somewhat of a disadvantage in terms of being
able to integrate current technology in their network.
If you feel there is a future revenue impact (IE: the risk that
the Austrian Futures Exchange would do business eleswhere), I'd
recommend contacting the product manager Alice Hassey, (delni::hassey)
and make your concerns known. Sometimes solutions come forth once
the real revenue impact is expressed.
