Hi All,
This is the second switch the customer has tried any ideas
what may be going on ??
Thanks,
Lou
Per our phone conversation here is the email about DECSWitch.
We recently installed a DECSWITCH 900 EE ( DEBMP-DA) on our LAN to isolate
two(2) LANs; ( LIVE LAN and New 10BT LAN) We configured the DECSWITCH
without routing and enabled Ethernet only on both AUI ports only.
We installed a Network General Sniffer on one side( 10BT LAN side ) of the
DECSWITCH
to monitor traffic. The sniffer is reporting CRC errors on the 10BT LAN side,
even when
there is no device connected to it besides the Sniffer.
The frame in error is if of the following format:
DST address - AAAAAAAAAAAA
SRC address - AAFF07FEFFFF
Ether Type - FF01
Byte size - differs from 60 - 132.
We DO NOT get this error on all frames being passed to the new 10BT LAN. We
only
get arounf 100 CRC errors in day, but still this should not happen.
Is there a special setup needed for the DECSwitch 900EE.?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Art

So you have a Router image currently loaded to this DECswitch
900EE and you are seeing CRC errors from a source address you
can't identify.
My first thought is if your customer is using this DECswitch 900EE/MP
as a simple bridge to bridge 2 LANs, why not load it with the bridging
code rather than using the MP image.
My next thought is that there is more here than meets the eye.
What exactly is connected to each AUI port of the DECswitch? IE:
What type of cable is being used, and are there any other components
such as MAUs (transceivers), DELNI's, connected to the AUI port that
the CRC errors are being seen on?

Sorry I was traveling for the week...
The customer states that they are only using bridge code.
They have 1 AUI connected to a transceiver cable attached to a piece
of thickwire and the other AUI to a sniffer.
Thanks,
Lou
