4409.0. "MAC addresses on 900FH ports?" by CSC32::J_SOBECKI (John Sobecki, DTN 592-4101, CXO3-2/D2) Tue May 13 1997 17:33

    Hello,

    Any MIB variables available to tell what station is connected to ports
    on a DECconcentrator 900FH?

    For example, what is the MAC address of the station is connected to port
    3, where port 3 is M connecting to an S station.

    I reviewed the FDDI RFC 1512 MIB along with the dec elan 2.9 MIB
    variables but could not locate anything except the concentrator MAC
    address, and the UNA and DNA addresses.

    Thanks,
    John Sobecki

    Since FDDI is a ring, the UNA and DNA are what you get. The FDDI
    rules say the concentrator's MAC must be located just prior to the
    concentrator's exit port; this means the stations connected to the
    concentrator are seen as upstream of that concentrator.

    So given a UNA, go to that station and ask it what _its_ UNA is. repeat.
    This is what a ring mapper does. We have a ring mapper (unsupported but
    handy) tool. Send mail if you're interested.
