4402.0. "DEChub 900EF config question" by rtpdial1_port2.rtp.dec.com::Gallagher (Life is good!) Mon May 12 1997 18:41

Subject: DECHub 90 Cs in a DECHub 900 Chassis.

Current configuration is a DECHub 900 Chassis with the following modules:
		Slot # 1	90C
		Slot # 2 90C
		Slot # 3 90C
		Slot # 4 90C
		Slot # 5 90C
		Slot # 6 90C
		Slot # 7 90FL
		Slot # 8 900EF

	Flex Channels / Port Switch:
		There are NO flex channels.
The Port Switch has Port # 1 (FDDI) with the "M" to the Back Plane, and the "S" to the front.

The "S" is connected to a "M" Port off a DEC500 Concentrator.
The "M" is connected to nothing on the back Plane.

The Port Switch has Port # 3 connected to the Back Plane, and connected to the Thinwire channel.

Issue:	In the above configuration everything connects fine.
However, when I attempt to bring the "M" Port to the front all connections are lost.

	Why?

The "M" Port is NOT connected to the Back Plane, and the Thinwire is connected
	to port switch # 3.

	What am I missing?

Thank You,

Ed Gallagher

I assume you mean a DECswitch 900EF.

When you say you are trying to bring the M port to the
front, do you mean both the M and S ports are both
out the front (you haven't changed the connection to the
DC500) ? Is there anything connected to the front-panel
M port?

The only thing I can think of right now is that maybe the
FDDI port has gone into preforwarding/learning for 30 seconds
due to the change. But things would be back to normal after
that.

Also, be sure you are managing the hub with a compatible version
of ClearVisn.
