4384.0. "clearVISN V1.0 for Unix - README instructions for CDROM Installation" by NETCAD::MORENZ (JoAnne Morenz NPE Network Management) Wed Apr 30 1997 18:12

clearVISN V1.0 for Unix (HP-UX, Solaris, AIX and Digital Unix) is now
available on CDROM. The following installation instructions should be used
with the CDROM.

The release medium is a CDROM created using ISO-9660 file format, commonly
known as CDFS. The following instructions will help users in mounting and
reading the CDROM so the product can be installed.

THIS INFORMATION SUPERCEDES THAT IN THE INSTALLATION MANUAL
-----------------------------------------------------------

Sun/Solaris V2.5+

To mount a CDROM on a Sun/Solaris V2.5 system, do the following:

1. Log in as superuser
2. mkdir /cdrom
3. mount -F hsfs -r /dev/dsk/c0t6d0s0 /cdrom
<< the above command assumes that the SCSI ID of the CDROM drive is 6. Make
the appropriate change if your CDROM drive is different >>
4. cd /cdrom/cv10
5. ./cv_install
<< this command starts the installation script>>

IBM/AIX

To mount a CDROM on an IBM/AIX V4.2 system, do the following:

1. Log in as superuser
2. mkdir /cdrom
3. mount -v cdrfs -o ro /dev/cd0 /cdrom
<< the above command assumes that cd0 is the devicename of your CDROM drive.
Make the appropriate change if the devicename of your CDROM drive is
different. Use 'smit' to find out the devicename >>
4. cd /cdrom/cv10
5. ./cv_install
<< this command starts the installation script>>

HP/HP-UX V10.0+

To mount a CDROM on an HP/HP-UX V10.0+ system, do the following:

1. Log in as superuser
2. mkdir /cdrom
3. mount /dev/dsk/c0t6d0 /cdrom

<< the above command assumes that the SCSI ID of the CDROM drive is 6. Make
the appropriate change if your CDROM drive is different. Use SAM to find out
the SCSI IS >>

4. cd /cdrom/cv10
5. ./CV_INSTALL\;1
<< type all CAPS. This command starts the installation script>>

DEC/Digital Unix V3.2B+

The CDFS file system is a configurable kernel option on Digital Unix. To find
out if CDFS is supported by your kernel, follow the instructions (step (1-3)
BEFORE following the steps for reconfiguring the kernel.

If step 3 fails, you must reconfigure the kernel as described below and then
follow steps 1-5 to mount the CDROM and install clearVISN.

To reconfigure the kernel, do the following:

1. Log in as superuser.
2. Edit your system configuration file (named /sys/conf/SYSNAME, where
SYSNAME is the capitalized form of your system name) to add the following
line:
options cdfs
3. cp /vmunix /usr/vmunix.save
4. cp /genvmunix /vmunix
5. /usr/sbin/shutdown -h now
6. Reboot the system by typing "boot" at the "..." prompt.
7. /usr/sbin/doconfig
<< this command asks you if you want to replace existing /sys/conf/SYSNAME.
Answer 'y' (yes). A menu of kernel option selections will be displayed.
Select option 9 (ISO 9660 CDFS). This will cause cdfs to be configured into
the new kernel.>>
8. mv /sys/SYSNAME/vmunix /vmunix
<< where SYSNAME is the capitalized form of your system name>>
9. /usr/sbin/shutdown -h now
10. Reboot by typing "boot" atthe ">>>" prompt.

I just cruised through the web site an there is no mention of the availability
of clearVISN products on a unix platform, nor or there part numbers for
ordering the stuff. Can someone post a pointer, as I am trying to quote it to
a customer and need a part number to get MLP.

    Hi Dennis

    Sales Flash Message following.

    Regards
    Jeannie

Announcing Availability of clearVISN V1.0 on Unix

We are pleased to announce that several clearVISN applications have
been ported to the following Unix environments:

DIGITAL UNIX HP HP-UX	IBM AIX Sun Solaris

The clearVISN applications that will ship on 22 May, are

MultiChassis Manager V5.0	Flash Loader V1.2
Recovery Manager V1.1 VLAN Manager V1.0

These applications are orderable as of 5 May. Part number and pricing
information is provided below. Each CDROM kit includes hardcopy
    documentation.

This release will be of most benefit to customers who do not have
VNswitches or MultiSwitch 600 products on their networks. These
applications contain equivalent functionality to that of the clearVISN V1.0
release on Win95/NT last June. VNswitch and MultiSwitch 600 customers need
to wait for clearVISN V1.1 to be ported; we anticipate V1.1 on Unix
operating systems to ship in the July-August timeframe.

This should open the door to several bids where the RFP's require
management on one of the above Unix operating systems. For existing
customers who have been in a holding pattern on a PC waiting for the Unix
version, you can now go back and sell them the clearVISN Unix products.
