This is not the size I get when I copy it to my PC. Mine says:
497,664, so your size looks wrong to me. I would get another
file off the web.

The LEDs on the Stack Director should not be changing when you
load the repeater. Those LEDs are for loading the Director only.
Did you perhaps use slot 9 when you meant 1-8 ? (However, the
Stack Dir. will not accept an image that's not meant for him.)

If the upper-righthand led didn't come on, then it's not
passing selftest. But you were just running D1.0.15, so
it's unlikely the hardware just decided to die on you.
If you had a console on the Stack Dir., you could look at the
current configuration to see if the Dir could see the Repeater.
Otherwise, I don't know why the LED is not on.

You won't see a BOOTP request, DLMR devices wont load
out the front ports.
Is your Stack Director still alive? If so, try loading the
switch with the new file.

No, you have to go through a Stack or DEChub 900 to load it.
And as long as your boot-block hasn't been corrupted (and I don't
see how that could happen, even with the wrong file), it
should come back to life.
Try again and let us know.

4362.2 | Obsolete Hardware. | NETCAD::COLELLA | | Wed Apr 16 1997 15:20 | 9 |
| Sorry, I just realized, you probably have prototype hardware.
If that's the case, then ignore everything I put in the previous
note, your obsolete hardware wont work. ("That dog wont hunt.")
Also, your Stack Director should be HW REV C, else it wont
work either.

| Those versions of firmware are from last January. If you are running
them, it is likely you have out-of-date prototype hardware, too.
The current hardware rev of the Stack Director is HW=C. You can find
it in the sysDescr in MCM, and the top line of the Show Current Status
console display. I don't know what the current revs are for the 624T.
You may have old physical hardware, old PROMs, or old boot block
firmware.
If you are going get a new replacement 624T, make sure you also get
a HW=C Stack Director. HW=A does not play nicely at all with new 624T
or 612Ex.
Sorry for the bad news,
Dotsie

I mean the T1.0.28 Stack Director and the D1.0.15 DLMR, not the
ones you've upgraded too!

4362.5 | MS 624T replacement only solution ?? | ZUR01::ACKERMANN | | Thu Apr 17 1997 09:50 | 36 |

Hello together,
Thanks for all Your replys.
I checked the File again on my PC (With File Properties),
the size is: 497,664 exactly the same as You said, so this
is not the Problem.
The Version of the Stack Director is:
HW=A, RO=V00.07, SW=V1.0 (after Upgrade)
The second MS 624T: HW=V1, RO=V01.03, SW=D1.0.16
If I understand you correctly, the Upgrade-Problem
of this Module is based on the HW Revision of the Stack Director ?
That means,we have to replace the Stack Director and the
braindead MS 624T Module?
Just another Question for the future:
-As i see, it is not possible to assign an IP Address to the
individual MS 600 Modules. The only SNMP Agent is in the Stack
Director implemented. So, how does the Bootp mechanism work for
the MS 600 Modules?
Thanks,

| The problem may be related to the hardware version
of the 624T. Or it may not. Like Barry said, try to do
another downline upgrade using the stack director
to downline load the 624T.
Your upgrade problem of the 624T is not related to the
hardware of the stack director. What they were saying is that
the products must have a compatible hardware version in
order to operate correctly. When/if you get a new stack
director, you must also get a new 624T and/or 612 switch.
You can't use the old prototype hardware with new shipping
hardware. Since both of you products are the old proto stuff,
they will work together.
As to your future question, MS600 modules do not do BOOTP. They
do not have a MAC, that is why they have no IP address. They get
their firmware loaded only with the help of the stack director,
which can load even a module that is missing its firmware.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for Your answer. The download via Stack Director
is not possible, because with: "show current settings" the
status of the MS Hub 624T is status down. It is also not possible
to do a redirect to this Module. (not responding)
At the Moment, i can anyway not test any more, because the whole
Multiswitch went to a Customer Event.
Thanks,
Daniel

| Daniel,
For the MultiSwitch 600 modules, the downline load firmware is part of
the boot block. Even with a 'dead' module, you can initiate a load.
From the setup console for the Stack Director, select 6) Downline Load.
When it asks which slot you want to load, reply with the stack level
("slot") of your 624T. You can also use the version of Flash Loader
that comes with clearVISN V1.1A.
The Owner's Manual for the 624T should have a description of the LED
patterns used while downline loading, so you can check progress.
You still need to swap those prototype units for the real thing,
though.

Hello Dotsie,
As soon as i get the Multiswitch 600 back from the Customer
Event, i will trie again the downline load.
Thanks,
Daniel
