4346.0. "Connected Stations Display on 900Repeaters/Portswitches" by PRIVAT::OTTO (getting better all the time) Thu Apr 10 1997 04:34

Hello ,

according to the help in Hubwatch/Multichassismanager
it should be possible to get also the IP address of a station connected
to a 900Type of a Repeater (Repeater900 TM Portswitch900TP...)

Connected Stations

The Connected Stations box displays the following information
about the stations connected to this port:

The MAC address seen on this port

The IP address of this station, if available

The IP name of this station, if available

The DECnet address of this station, if available

The DECnet name of this station, if available

The total number of stations connected to this port

The last source address seen on this port Connected Stations

I have no problem getting the MAC and DECNET address of connected stations
but never the IP Address/Name. There are several other places where I can
get a MAC or DECnet Address but never an IP Address. (DECswitch900EF)

Is there anything else to configure to make this work ?

This is very confusing for customers.

Anyone to sheed light on this subject ??

Thanks

OTTO

As far as I know, geting the IP-Address is (was) only possible with
HUBwatch for UNIX. The IP-Address was given if it was in the ARP-cache
    of the UNIX-System.

4346.2Why dont we remove this indicators anywayPRIVAT::OTTOgetting better all the timeThu Apr 17 1997 16:2811
    Hello Karl,
this is nice but since we (Digital) favor the other platforms (WIN95,NT)
where it does not work, wouldnt it be better to not have these IP
Indicators buttons etc. when the dont work anyway ? Will this ever be
corrected/fixed ? And what fancy story do You tell customers who ask
why there are this indicators, button, etc. when the dont work ?
I regulary get this type of questions and I am still seeking for a good
sense making story to tell the customers.
