4323.0. "MS600 in HUB900 chassis" by NETRIX::"eric gan@bejvc" (eric gan) Mon Mar 31 1997 00:56

Hi,

Does the two ethernet bus which MS600 ethernet modules attached on the
HUB900 chassis can be manageable? I mean, does the MS600 modules can or can't
be attached to backplan bus by clearVISN Multichassis Manager? Or they
are fixed connectting with the bus such as the 90' modules?

Thanks,
eric

They are manageable. They can be connected, or not, kind of
like the DECrepeater 90FS/TS. Matter of fact, they connect
to the same backplane LANs as the 90FS/TS.

For r1.

does the MS600 only support one LAN on backplane same as 90?

4323.3If it does...then...PTOJJD::DANZAKPittsburgher Tue Apr 01 1997 22:5715
    If it's like the TS (and I think that it is) It connects to:

    1.) The "default" LAN, which acts like a blue thinwire etc
    2.) ONE Flexchannel. The MAM 'automagically' moves the first
        Ethernet flexchannel (green line) to the UPPER connector.
        So, if you connect a 90TS to a FLEXlan, additional 90TS/ 90FS
         or MS600, can connect to THAT flexlan which has relocated to
          the upper connector

    That is....IF it works the same as the 90ts/fs etc.

    (Does it?)

When a 600 module is in the MS600, it can connect to six
flexible ethernets plus 1 "dedicated ethernet" (nee thinwire)
for a total of seven lans. It is a stack with
7 lans/collision domains!

When a 600 module is in the MS900, it behaves the
same as a 90TS i.e. one "dedicated ethernet" and
one flexible ethernet, which is automagically picked
like Jon said.

  We managed to set up an MS600 such a way last week for the local DECUS
  chapter Symposium !...

Do I have the chance to disconnect with all of the backplane bus?

 Yes, the Stack600 modules, when in a Hub900, can be disconnected from
 all backplane LANs.
