4291.0. "RMON problem with DECswitch 900EF" by HGOVC::ANDREWFUNG () Tue Mar 18 1997 21:08
Hello All,
Recently, I have tried to use RMON manager with DECswitch 900EF.
But I have found that I cannot install domains in RMON manager except
the domain "RMON".
The following is the equipment configuration I used :
1. DECswitch 900EF (firmware = v1.7.0R)
2. MS900 (firmware = V5.0)
3. Clearvisn v1.0, RMON manager v3.30
The following is the work we have done :
1. We've checked that the R/W community of both DECswitch 900EF & RMON
manager. Both of them are already set to "public-rmon".
2. When test button is clicked, the following information is displayed
:
General Information
IP Address : 16.157.32.21
Ping : Not Supported
Read community : "public-rmon" OK
Write community : "public-rmon" OK
Resource manager : Not Supported
Interface Information
Interface number : 4
Description : FDDI Port 1
Interface type : fddi(15)
physical address : (I think this information can be ignored)
System Information
Description : DECswitch 900EF,6-ethernet/fddi switch,HW=v1/2,
RO=v0.4,SW=v1.7.0R
Contact :
SysName :
Location :
Up since : (I think this information can be ignored)
3. We've used Multichassis Manager to make all switch port "RMON
enabled"
4. We then select the group and click "domain manager". The agent name
then appears which domain is "RMON". We click the install button and
select then domain we want to monitor, and OK is selected. The following Warning
message appears :
Error accessing agent DECswitch, domain "ALL".
While creatin channel "ALL".
Error : Entry or group not present in Agent.
Continue ?
I choose yes to continue, but it still can't install the domain
proper.
Can anyone give some advice about this problem to me ?
Rgds,
Andrew.

4291.1 | add suffix "-rmon" only RMON Mgr side | ZOTTO::ENYA | Yoshiharu Enya, Tokyo Japan | Wed Mar 19 1997 01:21 | 17 |

Hi Andrew.

Are you set same community name to both ? It's wrong.
If you set R/W community name "xxxxxx" to DECswitch900,
in RMON Manager side,
you must add suffix "-rmon" to that community name, so "xxxxxx-rmon"
to access RMON all 9 groups,
Try to change community name to "public" in DECswitch900.
