4258.0. "DS900EFs use 12 flex-channels for Ethernet?" by SNOFS1::63496::CHIUANDREW () Mon Mar 10 1997 00:09

    Hi,

Just want to confirm the flex-channels support on MAM V5.0 and DS900EF
    (DECswitch900EF). Since MAM V5.0 can have 12 Ethernet flex-channels,
    and DS900EF can have 6 flex-channels, if customer have 2 DS900EFs in
the same hub900 MAM V5.0, can the DS900EFs use 12 ethernet
flex-channels of the MAM V5.0 (reason, customer want to build more than
6 ethernets via MAM)? I think it does not support, but just want to
confirm before we ask customer to but VNswitch900EF instead!!

    thanks again for help!

You can only use up to six ethernets with the DS900EF and if they are all configured,
they will be the same six ethernets (6-wire) for each DS900EF. The DS900EF does not
have the hardware support to connect to the six "More Ethernets" (2-wire) that can be
set up with MAM V5, only the VNswitch can connect to the 2-wire ethernets at this
time. If your customer wants to use the six 2-wire ethernets, he'll have to buy a
VNswitchEF.

You're right. It's not supported.

The DECswitch900EFs has six Ethernet ports and one FDDI port. Any of the
six ports can be connected to any of the first 6 Ethernet channels in the
DEChub900. (The first 6 Ethernet channels are also called 6-wire Ethernets.)

The VNswitch900EF has 12 Ethernet ports and one FDDI port. Any of the Ethernet
ports can be connected to the backplane.

FDDI can connect to any of the backplane channels.
