4234.0. "900EF runs slow after upgrade to v1.7" by KAOFS::HXMP01::p_savoie (mcs network support) Fri Feb 21 1997 10:56

Hi,
One of our most important customer recently updated their 900EF to V1.7 and
last week they reported that the switch was very slow. They could still ping
through it. They are not setup for Vlan's, no filters, no routing. They are
monitoring the switch via RMON.

It was a crisis situation when this problem occurred, so the customer did not
have much time to do any troubleshooting, so there is no detailed
information available.

The problem described in 4128.0 is close in symptoms to mine, but 4128.1
describes a different config with Vlan's ????

Would someone know if the planned patch to fix the problem reported in 4128.1
applies to non Vlan configurations.

Thanks,
Paul Savoie

Actually, this sounds very different from the situation
described in 4128. The situation in 4128 can only occur through
VLAN configuration changes. Did the customer upgrade to 1.7 or
1.7R? Could you please provide more detail on what is meant
by "slow"? The performance of the 1.7 image has not changed much
    at all from previous versions.

4234.2Problem solved, Test ID calls FDDI PortKAOFS::HXMP01::p_savoiemcs network supportTue Feb 25 1997 11:0910
Hi,
We had the NPBU hotline decode the error log entries which had a Test ID=E05,
which points to the FDDI port being bad.
My original entry was meant to check if there was any known problems with
1.7, as they had previously checked with us for known problems before
upgrading, and we gave them the go ahead.

Thanks for the reply,
Paul Savoie
