4153.17 | The error log indicates problems with an Ethernet port | NETCAD::BATTERSBY | | Fri Jan 24 1997 10:54 | 15 |
| Ok 3 of those 4 error log entries point to a problem with the
Lance ports. Test ID's 920, 921, are related to port 3 (second
Ethernet port on an EF) diagnostic tests. Test B01 is an internal
diagnostic loopback test to test the each of the Ethernet ports.
The Test ID of "DEAD" with an error code 23C0 is a firmware reported
error which might be a second order affect of attempting to do
some backplane operation with that defective Ethernet port.
When one port goes bad, what one should have seen I believe, is
that the module runs its POST on power up, detects a single Ethernet
port failure, but continues and allow eventual hand-over to firmware.
I think too that the Module OK LED might blink on and off indicating a
non-fatal failure. That would have been an indication that all
wasn't fine with the module.

This seems to tie up with Carl Mowers response from the SNMP trace
taking during the attempt to add the leg onto the LAN. This indicated
that the problem was a faulty ethernet port (port 3).
Thanks for all the help
