3870.0. "how much rmon supported..." by HEN::SCHNEIDER (Rick Schneider (315)461-9938) Thu Sep 12 1996 13:26

I need to find out exactly what groups of RMON are supported for some
of the DEChub products. I've surfed the dechub web pages and the
DECdirect web pages and didn't find ANY informatio on RMON support for
    our DEChub products...

In looking at the firmware release notes I don't see much infomatio on
RMON support... although some of the release notes say they support the
RMON rfc 1271 (but to what extent... I thought most of our products
supported only subsets of the full 9 RMON groups...)

ie. repeaters support alarms and events
use repeater stats to approximate rmon
    				ether stats

DECswitch supports alarms, events, stats and history

(a RMON firmware upgrade can be purchased to allow the
    		 DECswitch 900EF/DECbridge 900MX, DECswitch 900EE and
DECswitch 900FO to support all 9 groups of rmon... BUT device
    		 performance will be impacted...)

Specifically I'm looking for clarification/information on:

    	DECswitch 900EE
firmware 1.1 - no rmon support
firmware 1.7 - supports alarms, events, stats, history
firmware 1.7 rmon upgrade - all 9 groups

    	Portswitch 900TP
    			firmware 2.1 - all 9 groups?

       	DECrepeater 900TM
       			firmware 2.0 - all 9 groups

       	DECrepeater 90TS
firmware 2.0 - no rmon support

    	DEChub 900
firmware 4.1 - supports alarms, events

Also, the release notes say we support the rfc 1271 (rmon rfc from
1991). Can we say that we implement rfc 1757 (rmon rfc from 1995)?
The two changes are mainly regarding the packet capture group... the
rest of the changes are clarifications to rfc 1271....

Are there any dechubs that have the new rmon firmware on the enet? I'd
like to see how ClearVISN rmon manager interacts with them...

    				thanks,

    				rick

Support for all 9 groups of RMON plus additional mib extensions
to support the monitoring of network traffic for all
seven ISO layers within the framework of the RMON standard.
    (RMON2 "like" features)

Since all RMON groups are optional you can claim support by implementing
any one of the groups. That's why people always ask which RMON groups
are supported. Our documentation and release notes should be more
specific.

No, just Alarms and Events. No repeaters support more than just the
Alarm and Event groups.

No, just Alarms and Events.

I'll get back to you on this one.

Yes.
